Ever since its foundation, the International Dance Theatre believes it an important task to develop educational activities and to increase the number of young people in the audience. In January 2001, the company was granted a subsidiary to found a second ensemble which performs for audiences aged 8 and up. The International Dance Theatre for young people aims to have as many (school)children as possible become acquainted with world dance. The company offers school performances at all kinds of locations, such as school halls, gyms and cultural centres. And so the International Dance Theatre is able to reach young people throughout the country.

The dancers of the International Dance Theatre originate from various countries, and communicate with the young audiences using dance as the universal language. Their performances are based on dance material from all corners of the globe and are specially geared to audiences aged 8 and older. And so young people can become acquainted with the rich (dance) culture of various nations, in keeping with their own world. The International Dance Theatre has proven itself capable of creating appealing performances, which form a bridge between the traditional and modern-day dance culture. A performance by the International Dance Theatre is a first introduction to theatre in general and to dance in particular, for many of the young audiences.

Practical information on school performances
The school performances are suitable for pupils aged 8 to 15 and can be danced at various locations, as long as certain conditions are met. Click on the ‘bookings and technology’ button for these conditions.
Teachers receive free teaching material which can serve as a guide to discussing the performances beforehand and analysing them afterwards. There is also the option of booking a preparatory dance workshop, organised by the Dance in School foundation. See also the information under the ‘Dance in School’ button.

Repertoire for school performances in the 2010/2011 season
